  • Gatecrashing Director!

    Lesley Bailey, Vice Chair of Delta's Board of Directors, visited De Lacy today. She started her morning at 8 a.m. gatecrashing students alongside members of the Senior Leadership Team and support staff. Here she is asking a maths question to one of our students!


    She also spent time looking at lessons across the academy as well as reviewing the quality of assessment, marking and feedback. Her time with us ended by talking to our Lead Out Loud students followed by a fish and chips lunch - a Friday favourite h

  • Reading in Key Stage 3

    We take reading really seriously at De Lacy Academy, with all students assessed for their reading age every term.  We understand that students who have a high reading age have a better chance of achieving success in their GCSE exams than those with a lower reading age.  The independent reading that is promoted across the academy has enabled several students to achieve a significant increase in their reading age.

    You may have noticed members of the Senior Leadership Team standing at the school gates with mini whiteboards this week. This is Gatecrasher! Students are asked common literacy and numeracy questions that many people often get wrong in exams, such as the use of  there, their and they're or what the total number of degrees are in a trinagle. The idea is that over time, students will learn from these daily encounters and not make common errors in exams later on.

  • Year 10 Geography Field Trip News

    A fantastic day was had by our Year 10 Geographers last Thursday. They spent the day in the sunshine investigating the stunning landforms at Flamborough Head and then completing the fieldwork needed for their GCSE course in Hornsea.

     Textbook pages were brought to life as students could see the processes and features that make up the headland at Flamborough. They also got to practise a variety of fieldwork techniques. After a quick ice cream stop and opportunity to study the sand dunes at Bridlington the har

  • New year 7 uniform event this week

    5th June 2017

    Don't forget the uniform event this Thursday at De Lacy for all our new year 7 students starting with us in September. The Main Hall will be open from 3pm to 6pm to show off the brand new Delta uniform Year 7 will wear from September.

    Students will have the chance to try on uniform for sizes and place orders.

    There will also be pop up shops during the school holidays for any of our students to buy new uniform:

    Year 10 and 11 students played rugby league against each other today, it was a close call however year 10 won 24 - 22. A great effort by all the lads who took part.

  • UKRoC Youth Rocketry Challenge Regional Final

    6th April 2017

    Andrew Rhodes, Lewis Walker, Jake Hutchinson and Luke Lloyd took part in the UK regional qualifying flights at Elvington Air Base.

    Again a great improvement on last year with the team nominally taking 2nd place, from a field of 9, but they were left to curse their luck as they potentially could have taken first place but for the fact they could only manage one flight where their rocket's altitude could be measured, at a heady 690 feet (particularly close to the target height of 775 feet given the gusting win

  • Outward Bound Ullswater Trip Y10 2017

    A fantastic week had by all where we encountered all types of weather, including up to 30cm of snow on Wednesday morning!

     Students took part in activities such as gorge walking, camping, canoeing and hiking, they also experienced steam and speed boats. The students challenged themselves by working out of their comfort zone along with students from Wakefield City Academy and Crofton Academy in order to navigate up mountains, cook food in the wilderness and work with others they didn't know at the start of th
