BTEC Sport is your first step towards perusing a career in fitness and sport. The course aims to increase and strengthen your knowledge of sport in society and sport science. You should have a genuine interest and enjoyment for a variety of sports and we strongly encourage you to be competing in one sport outside of school. The course is split into theory and practical and you will be assessed for both. You should be prepared to challenge all modules with a theoretical approach. We expect all pupils to be respectful to both teachers and students within the BTEC Sport group and be actively participating in all lessons. Not only will you gain a qualification, you will take away with you essential skills of how to create and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
What you will study:
UNIT 1 – Fitness for Sport and Exercise – Which includes components of fitness, principles of training, methods of training and fitness testing.
UNIT 2 – Practical Performance in sport – Rules, regulations and scoring systems of two sports. Practically demonstrate skills, techniques and tactics in selected sports. Be able to review performance.
UNIT 3 – Applying the Principles of Personal Training – Designing a personal fitness training programme. To know about the musculoskeletal and cardiorespiratory system and the effects on the body. Implement a self-designed personal fitness training programme to achieve own goals and objectives.
UNIT 5 – The Sports Performer in Action – The short-term effects of exercise on the cardiorespiratory and musculoskeletal system. The long-term adaptations of the cardiorespiratory and musculoskeletal system. To understand all the energy systems.
