Textiles

Our Year 9 Curriculum Intent

Here at De Lacy, we offer Textiles as part of the Technology carousel. Over the course of the 6-7 weeks students will learn creative skills that will be used to create a final project. Textiles is an important inclusion into the Technology carousel as it not only teaches students fundamental skills, it enables students to explore their creativeness whilst developing an appreciation of textiles production globally. Students will complete two projects over the year.

The first project is using all of the skills learned in Year 7 and 8 to produce an ocean-inspired mixed media piece of wall art. Students will learn how to use the sewing machine to draw through using free motion attachments. They will learn how to use various form of material to create layers and textures s well as other hand techniques such as weaving.

The second project is based on fashion and students will learn about upcycling clothing and textiles. They will start to develop the skills needed for GCSE through developing an understanding of mood board and artist research.

Textiles Learning Journey

Cultural Capital

As part of our curriculum, we ensure that we provide our students the opportunities to broaden their learning through various subject based cultural opportunities.  These vary for each subject but provide an array of activities for both students and families to engage with. These are divided into half term learning opportunities and can be found in the documents below.
